About This Place

Nestled conveniently at 2239 Old Pecos Trail in the heart of Santa Fe, Pecos Trail Cafe is a standout local gem serving authentic New Mexican cuisine that delights both locals and visitors alike. This vibrant restaurant captures the essence of Southwestern flavors with a menu that balances traditional favorites and inventive dishes, all served in a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels both spacious and comfortably casual.

The culinary experience at Pecos Trail Cafe is a celebration of rich, bold tastes and fresh ingredients. From the moment you take your first bite of their New Mexican Rib Eye Steak smothered in green chile, you’re immersed in a jubilant blend of smoky, savory, and spicy flavors. The rib eye is tender and perfectly grilled, complemented expertly by the chile relleno and creamy refried beans. For seafood lovers, the Enchiladas del Mar and Salmon with Shrimp Enchilada offer a delightful oceanic twist marked by fresh seafood and delicate, tangy sauces.

Vegetarian diners are equally pampered with thoughtful options like the Primavera Three Rolled Enchiladas, featuring guacamole, cheese, and vegetable fillings topped with vibrant tomatillo sauce. The Burrito De Vegetales also shines with its grilled vegetables lovingly enveloped in a smothering of chile and creamy Monterey Jack cheese, proving that meat-free meals can be just as rich and satisfying.

Don’t miss sweet endings like their famously creamy Flan, crispy and golden Sopapillas, or the indulgently luscious Bananas Foster—desserts that perfectly round out the meal with their luscious textures and expertly balanced sweetness.

The ambiance at Pecos Trail Cafe elevates the dining experience further. One visitor, Sue Young, describes it as “decorated very nice with a comfortable atmosphere” enhanced occasionally by the lively presence of a mariachi band, bringing the spirit of New Mexico right to your table. The spacious layout offers plenty of seating without feeling crowded, creating a relaxed vibe where guests can truly savor their meal in peace. Attentive staff greet you with genuine warmth, making every visit feel special and personally looked after.

Whether you’re craving the hearty richness of the Flameado Rib Eye Steak topped with chorizo and melted aged Monterey Jack, or you’re seeking the comfort of a steaming bowl of their well-regarded green chili stew—a dish lauded by Odin Javans for its perfect balance of heat and hearty morsels—Pecos Trail Cafe promises a memorable taste of Santa Fe’s culinary heritage. Cocktails like the crisp Margarita and zesty Lemon Drop add a festive touch, ideal for toasting special moments or simply unwinding after a day of exploring.

Practical amenities also enhance the experience here: Melissa Lara notes the restaurant’s spaciousness, cleanliness, and ample parking, making it a go-to spot for both locals and travelers. The owners’ personal involvement, as mentioned by Alex Garmezy, ensures that every dining experience feels personal and celebratory. Great food, heartfelt service, and an authentic Southwestern dining environment come together at Pecos Trail Cafe, making it one of Santa Fe’s most cherished culinary destinations.

What a surprise! We had great food and incredible service with this on site restaurant next to our hotel. Arriving 10 min before closing, they were very pleasant and prepared our food quickly and with care. It was decorated very nice with a comfortable atmosphere! They even had a mariachi band. We had to order to go due to traveling with our 2 large dogs, but the time spent inside was very good. This has been some of the best New Mexican food we have had in a while, and we eat a lot of it!! Everything was done perfect and the taste was great! Highly recommend this restaurant!!

This is one of my favorite local restaurants in Santa Fe! The food and drinks are always good and the soaps are the best in town! The owner is always there to say hello and helps us celebrate birthdays with fun drinks.

We stopped in for lunch today and enjoyed some delicious food! I had the Mexican sampler for $15 and it was so much food! Definitely wished I had shared it, but my husband had his hands full with a chicken sopappilla entree! The food came out quickly and was nice and hot. Everyone working was warm.and welcoming! Highly recommend!

We stopped for lunch at the Pecos Trail Cafe on our way though Santa Fe. We ordered two combination plates and a bowl of green chili stew. While both combo plates were good the green chili stew was the highlight. The rich, brothy, soupy green chili had potato and pork chunks with fresh crispy tortilla straps. It was plesently spicy and completely delicious. The tamales and enchiladas were good and came with beautiful red and green chili sauces. The chili rellano stood out as the best from among our two combo plates. The beans and rice were good, but nothing to write home about, I will say, it was nice to have Spanish rice that wasn't overcooked, they did good there. Our service was prompt and friendly, the food came out quickly. They even serve a couple sopaipillas with honey for after your meal. The restaurant was slow with only four tables seated. They have plenty of room for larger parties here. We are glad to have stopped at the Pecos Trail Cafe for lunch! Great choice!

We have driven past this restaurant a hundred times and always thought about stopping. We finally did and couldn't be more happy with it! We shared a frito pie as we were too close to dinner to really feast. The depth of the red chile sauce was on point, with the perfect amount of heat. Our waiter was very accommodating and offered to beef up our dish when he learned we were going to be sharing. Don't pass by this authentic New Mexican food!

Omg! Stayed at the Inn 30 years ago, and ate here then. Was happy to see it was still here! Got a local beer (Nut Brown… yum!), and ordered a cup of Albondigas soup as an appetizer, and the fish tacos for dinner. They were salmon, which surprised me, but they were delicious! I made yum-yum noises the whole time I ate them, and forgot to take a picture. Haha! But I would definitely get them again! The place was practically empty (time of day/year?), but we got amazing service! I took off one star for “Atmosphere” because of the annoying country music. Coming from Texas, I was hoping for anything BUT country. Oh well! They close between lunch and dinner, and close fairly early each night. So get there early! They are also closed on Sunday. Super convenient if you stay at the Pecos Trail Inn.
